    There is an immediate opening for a postdoctoral research associate position in the Department of Mechanical and Construction Engineering, faculty of engineering and environment at Northumbria University. You will work with Dr Sergio Gonzalez Sanchez and other colleagues in a national leading research lab, in rapid solidification and novel alloy development. The lab has achieved a strong research profile with publications in world leading journals, and attracting funds from Research Council and industrial collaborative projects.

    This Research Associate position is part of a project funded by Innovate UK Smart Grant. The aim of the project is to Design of High Entropy Alloys with Improved Thermomechanical Properties using Machine Learning Algorithms. The research will involve i) to validate an Artificial Intelligence algorithm using the Cantor alloy
    ii) fabrication of the most promising High Entropy Alloys and microstructure characterization, iii) pulverization of the most promising alloys and subsequent manufacture as coatings. This position would suit a highly motivated researcher, interested in crossing discipline boundaries between materials science and engineering.
    The applicant should have significant research experience and a track record of high impact journal publication, and related research experiences of the following: materials, microstructure characterization and mechanical testing. The successful applicant should possess a PhD degree in engineering, materials or a related discipline before starting the post, or/and have relevant postdoctoral experience (desired).
