The research group of Dr Diarmuid Ó'Maoiléidigh is searching for a full-time (with flexible working arrangements) postdoctoral research associate (PDRA) to work on a BBSRC David Phillips Fellowship funded project in the field of plant development, transcriptional regulation, photosynthesis, and functional genomics. We will work on floral organ photosynthesis, which is important for crop yield, however, a systematic analysis of how floral photosynthesis is controlled is lacking. We are using a variety of model plant organisms including Arabidopsis thaliana and Cardamine hirsuta to understand how floral organ photosynthesis is controlled during development. We are also interested in understanding how floral organs are formed and how the underlying leaf developmental program has been rewired during evolution. We are using a comparative approach to understand these processes more clearly and would like researchers with experience in molecular biology, functional genomics, FACS, confocal microscopy, and/or photosynthesis to join our group.
The main responsibilities of the PDRA will be: - The generation and utilization of fluorescent marker lines for FACS and single-cell genomics - Analysis of these data and integration of other complementary datasets - Using available data to understand how the transcription of specific candidate genes is controlled and how this will impact upon plant development.
You should have a PhD degree in molecular biology/genetics/plant science (or a related discipline). You should have experience in leading a research project that includes at least two of the above technical areas and be able to demonstrate a level of independence commensurate with your experience.
