Postdoctoral Fellow



    The Hevener laboratory at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center invites applications from highly motivated and self-sufficient scientists for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate to support a multi-year, federally funded research project. The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. in protein biochemistry, structural biology or a closely related discipline and have expertise in macromolecular x-ray crystallography. Additional skills in protein expression/purification and molecular cloning are desirable. Candidates must also possess strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to work both independently and as the member of a team, and a record of first author publications in structural biology. Learning opportunities for the successful candidate include training in enzymology, HTS assay design, virtual screening, and computer-aided methods in drug development.
    The Hevener Laboratory at UTHSC focuses on the validation and characterization of novel infectious disease drug targets using both experimental and computational methods. This project focuses on a target in the bacterial fatty acid synthesis pathway and will involve x-ray co-crystallography and structure-guided lead optimization. UTHSC offers postdoctoral researchers a competitive salary and full benefits package. Negotiable release time will be permitted for the development of independent projects.
