Postdoctoral Training Fellow (Cancer Therapeutics)

The Cancer Research UK Cancer Therapeutics Unit, within the Division of Cancer Therapeutics, is a multidisciplinary 'bench to bedside' centre, comprising around 160 staff dedicated to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. The Cancer Therapeutics Unit’s exciting goal is to discover high quality drug candidates for validated biological targets and to progress these candidates to clinical trial. All the scientific disciplines are in place to make this possible. Our biologists work alongside world-class chemists and drug metabolism specialists focusing on new molecular targets emerging from human genome and ground breaking cell biology research. This is an exciting and fast moving area of cancer research, and offers the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary environment using state-of-the-art techniques and equipment.

We have an opportunity for a talented and motivated postdoctoral training fellow to join our Target Evaluation and Molecular Therapeutics (TEMT) team, within the Division of Cancer Therapeutics. The TEMT team has a dual role in developing assays and strategies to support drug discovery and investigating the underlying biology of cancer targets and the response to targeted therapeutics. The successful candidate will work within an on-going drug discovery project, contributing to an understanding of target biology, developing a testable therapeutic hypothesis for the target in ER+ breast cancer, and examining the contribution of the target to the development of treatment resistance.

Applicants should have a PhD degree in cell biology, cancer biology, genetics, biochemistry or similar. Experience in mammalian cell biology techniques, including cell culture, is essential. Applicants should be committed to working within a multidisciplinary environment to discover and progress translational cancer science. Excellent organisational and communication skills are also required.

The position is offered on a fixed term 2-year contract. Starting salary is in the range of £32,200 to £40,100 per annum based on skills and experience. Future progression is based on annual performance review. Informal enquiries can be made via email to [email protected]. Please note this address is for enquiries only.

To apply please submit online application on the ICR Careers site, attaching your CV with the supporting statement (addressing with specific examples where you meet the person specification, a brief description of your research experience and incl. the names and addresses of at least two referees).
