The research group of Professor Derek W Gilroy has pioneered research examining the molecular and biochemical pathways that regulate the resolution of acute immune reactions.
In addition, the Gilroy group has established and characterised several models of local and systemic inflammation in healthy humans as well as aged individuals and patients with chronic inflammatory diseases A Research Fellow has become available.
The aim of the job is to work in collaboration with Servier Pharmaceutical, this two-year project will be using the above skin window models to examine how innate immune response evolves and resolves in patients with system lupus erythematosus (SLE).
The successful candidate will be responsible for writing, managing and overseeing all aspects of ethical approval and data protection that pertains to this project, as well as training and supervising students and to train other new lab members. Introducing new technical skills to the laboratory and refine existing ones, and also supervise the general lab area ensuring that junior lab members work appropriately and safely.
This position is available until August 2021 in the first instance.
The successful candidate must have a Phd or equivalent in relevant subject area, including pending PhD. An appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (Salary £31,479 - £33,194 per annum, including London Allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
Must also have proven knowledge of research techniques and methodologies in cell and molecular biology.
Ability to teach/ demonstrate research methods and techniques and have excellent communication skills. Must also have commitment to high quality research.
