Postdoctoral Scientist (Electron Microscopy) - Structural Studies – Dr Andrew Carter - LMB 1018

    Postdoctoral Scientist – Structural Studies
    Salary Range £30,464 - £33,305
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK

An opportunity is available for a postdoctoral researcher to work with Dr Andrew Carter using electron microscopy to solve structures of dynein/dynactin complexes on microtubules. The project would suit someone with a desire to develop cryo-EM or cryo-ET image analysis techniques to study flexible and complex molecular machines.

I am looking for a candidate who is enthusiastic and good at working with others. The environment at the MRC-LMB encourages collaborations both within and between groups. The project will give you the opportunity to interact with the neighbouring Scheres and Briggs groups who have extensive expertise in cryoEM and cryoET method development. The overall goal is to understand how dynein motors move on microtubules and interact with their cargos.

The position would suit someone with a strong background in image processing, scripting or algorithm development. You should have a desire to apply cryoEM or cryoET to a challenging biological problem. Experience in either technique is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.

Successful applicants will be awarded a three-year Career Development Fellowship. The fellowship is a training and development position for a post-doctoral scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies, is moving into a new research discipline or has limited experience of key transferable skills.

Informal enquires can be made to [email protected]
