Project: The optical functionality of photonic crystals originates from the interaction of light with the differential refractive indices of the surrounding media and the structured material. Plasmonic photonic crystals additionally exploit the strong dipole polarisibility of the collective electron-density fluctuations of incorporated metal particles. The goal of this project is to exploit the combination of bottom-up with top-down methods for the design and fabrication of materials with tailored optical properties.
Requirements: The candidate is expected to have a strong background in physics or chemistry. Experience in optics, spectroscopy and / or lithography techniques will be extremely beneficial.
