    Salary Negotiable for Correct Candidate

    The role:

It is now possible to collect a small volume of blood from subjects and assess basal mitochondrial function in the form of a mitochondrial bioenergetic health Index (MBHI) and subsequently determine how it varies in response to different life-style conditions.

The aim of this project is for the Research Fellow to implement this MBHI to monitor changes in bioenergetics in free-living individuals. This, coupled with other risk markers, will enable us to stratify subjects against a population’s optimal health curve, and thus provide them with a measurable point on a scale. It will be a benchmark for each individual to work from, in order to achieve or maintain optimal health. The ultimate aim is to create a novel data management system that will integrate current and future health outputs that are presently collected and presented individually to customers.

    Responsibilities:
Developing and implementing the MBHI. You will, in conjunction with Prof Bell, design and carry out the experiments, analyse results and create Standard MBHI Curves.
Work closely with all stakeholders to maximise the impact of the results and integrate them into practical data management system
Collating, presenting and producing project updates/reports to SME stakeholders and colleagues
Support the SME for knowledge transfer with project updates and maintenance/support documentation/videos.

    Essential criteria:

Minimum 2.1 BSc in biochemistry or related subject and experience in:
    Isolation of PBMC and mitochondria
    Assessing mitochondrial function
    Use of SeaHorse system
    Participant recruitment
Understanding of research method, analysis and interpretation of results
Creation of practical and ease of use of Data Bases and Modelling

    Ability to:
    Communicate well to non-specialist audience
    Work well under pressure

    Desirable criteria:
PhD with experience in mitochondrial metabolism and cell biology
Knowledge of programming as you will be working closely with the SME to implement the use of “personalised avatars” for visualization of health output
Some expertise in “R” or “Python” for statistical analysis
