This post offers an exciting opportunity for a skilled and experienced research scientist to join a vibrant and multidisciplinary research team, working in collaboration with University College Dublin and Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful to ensure the successful delivery of a large scale and time-critical water quality monitoring programme.

This project is a €1 million Interreg VA funded research project which has the aim of developing a bathing water quality prediction model to enable short-term pollution to be predicted for six bathing waters in Northern Ireland and two in the Republic of Ireland. The outcomes will help to protect public health, significantly improve communication to members of the public and, in doing so, contribute to promoting tourism.

The successful candidate will act as the AFBI project co-ordinator and be responsible for the planning, deployment and maintenance of field-based rain fall and river gauges that utilise automated telemetry during the bathing season, the microbiological analysis of bathing water samples and supporting the development of bathing water quality prediction models. You will conduct data analysis, interpretation and presentation of results as well as contribute to high quality scientific papers.

Further appointments may be made from this competition should AFBI positions become vacant which have similar duties and responsibilities.
