The work of the RBGE Tropical Diversity Team focuses on understanding the diversity, distribution and evolution of tropical plants and linking this knowledge to conservation and sustainable utilisation. This includes taxonomy (inventory, monography, floristics), macroecology, evolutionary development, phylogenetics/phylogenomics, conservation, sustainability, and capacity building. There is a strong emphasis on linking the research programme with RBGE’s collections (living plants, herbarium). Our work has a particular focus on SE Asia and the neotropics, and current areas of taxonomic expertise include Gesneriaceae, Begoniaceae, Solanaceae, Zingiberaceae and Sapotaceae.
We are seeking an outstanding scientist who has, or who is developing, an international reputation and track record in tropical biodiversity science. We are particularly interested to hear from applicants with strengths in one or more of the following areas:
(a) delivering high-impact international quality science
(b) securing external grant income
(c) connecting biodiversity science to sustainable development and contemporary societal challenges
The remit of this post is deliberately open to attract the best possible candidates from the widest field. We are interested in applicant’s ideas about what they can bring to the RBGE Tropical Diversity programme.
A full job description and person specification can be downloaded on our website.
Interested candidates should send a CV and covering letter outlining the skills and experience they could bring to the post to , along with a completed equal opportunities questionnaire by Monday, 17 September 2018.
