    A Postdoctoral Research Assistant position is available at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in Professor Richard Pickersgill’s group, to work on the structure of the inner-membrane platform of the type II secretion system to be determined by cryo-electron microscopy.

    Queen Mary is one of the top research-led universities in the UK and was ranked 5th for outputs in the UK multi-faculty universities in the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014). The School of Biological and Chemical Sciences ranked 16th for outputs in Biology and equal 6th in Chemistry in REF2014. All postdoctoral researchers are part of the QMUL Doctoral College, which provides support with high-quality training and career development activities.

    The ideal candidate for the position will have a PhD in structural biology and/or biochemistry, with significant experience in cryo-electron microscopy and an interest and knowledge of molecular mechanisms of bacterial infection. Experience in other structural biology techniques (for example X-ray crystallography) and working with bacterial pathogens is highly desirable.

    The post is funded for 18 months. The start date is 1st October 2018. The salary is in the range of £32,956 - £36,677 per annum and is inclusive of London allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, season ticket loan and pension scheme.
    Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
