Research Associate in Computational Simulation of Cerebral Blood Flow

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £34,635 to £41,864 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work with Professor Peter Coveney in the Department of Chemistry at University College London. The successful candidate will join a very active inter-disciplinary group in the Centre for Computational Science, and will work on providing guiding theoretical principles and computational methods for the design of novel materials based on their atomic composition and structure.

The post-holder will work primarily on scientific applications of HemeLB, a flexible lattice-Boltzmann code for the simulation of blood flow in support of medical and clinical decision making and for physiological research. The postholder will be expected to engage closely in the development of software within the project, including contributions to the verification, validation and uncertainty quantification toolkit which will be a central output of VECMA.

The post is funded by the European Commission and is available from 15 June 2018 or soon thereafter, for a period of 24 months initially.

The successful candidate will have a PhD degree (or about to be awarded a PhD) in an area of the mathematical, physical, engineering and computer sciences or related areas, with extensive experience of modelling and simulation, particularly involving high performance computing, preferably with the lattice-Boltzmann method. An excellent and consistent publication track record is also essential.

Please note, appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B (salary £30,316 to £31,967 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
