UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1, UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science (Temporary)

Applications are invited for a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1, UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science. This is a temporary post.

Melioidosis is a potentially fatal tropical disease with a global incidence of 165,000 cases and 89,000 deaths per year. It is highly antibiotic resistant and there are no approved vaccines to protect people in these regions from melioidosis. People with diabetes are particularly at risk to melioidosis. There is an urgent unmet need to protect populations of subtropical/tropical countries from this infection. We have identified a vaccine antigen that protected two different mouse models from lethal melioidosis infection. Due to recent funding from the Wellcome Trust Innovator Award, the DiSarM project will allow us to perform essential developmental steps to further test the vaccine's safety and effectiveness, so that we can move towards testing the vaccine in humans.
