    We are looking to recruit a Senior Research Support Officer to join the team that manages, maintains, develops, and supports users of the world-leading electron microscopy facility at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK. The principal aim of the facility is the application and development of electron cryomicroscopy and cryo-electron tomography in the context of Structural Biology.

    By early 2018 the electron microscopy facility will include three Titan Krios, two Polara, two other FEG microscopes, a Scios dual-beam and lower-end microscopes. It has approximately 150 active users applying electron cryomicroscopy and cryo-electron tomography to study important biological problems, and delivers approximately 40,000 hours of electron microscope time per year. It hosts research programmes aimed at the development of new hardware and software for cryo-electron microscopy.

    Main duties include supporting, advising and training users, upkeep and maintenance of electron microscope hardware and software, and maintaining associated equipment and documentation. Furthermore, you will collaborate with MRC-LMB scientists on research projects aimed at improving the performance, efficiency and usability of the electron microscopes through modification of software or hardware. If appointed at a senior level, you will sustain and steer such projects, prepare data for publication and present data at meetings.

    Although we are ideally looking to appoint a MRC Band 3 Senior Research Support Officer, we will consider appointing a promising candidate to a MRC Band 4 Research Support Officer position and support their development into the Senior position, for full job descriptions please visit our recruitment website. The appointment at Band 3 or Band 4 will be dependent on qualifications and experience. A relevant PhD or equivalent level of experience, outstanding interpersonal skills, and substantial experience in the use of electron microscope, are required. Starting Salary if appointed at Band 4 is £27,906 - £33,305.
