Together our staff and students are discovering innovative ways to change the world for the better and there has never been a more exciting time for you to join us. We are ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide and have an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. We are led by discovery and innovation, with the synergy between research and learning at the core of our activity.

In this role you will conduct neuroscience research into the role of Kv3 and K2P channels in presynaptic auditory processing in a BBSRC funded research project entitled: “Subunit specific mechanisms by which potassium channels mediate intrinsic plasticity and neuronal integration in the auditory pathway”. A particular focus of the project is on the Medial Nucleus of the Trapezoid Body (MNTB) and Calyx of Held and other nuclei in the superior olivary complex.

You will plan and carry out the programme of work using appropriate methodology and techniques, including patch clamp studies, gene editing, mRNA and protein expression within identified neurons. You will take a leading role in developing research and experimental design aimed at reaching the goals of the research project in collaboration with the PI, technician and PhD students.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in neuroscience, or a related subject knowledge. You will be an enthusiastic experimentalist with the ambition to explore intrinsic excitability and/or auditory processing.

Full-time open ended contract subject to fixed term funding. Funding is available for three years.
