Applications are invited for the above two year fixed-term position at the Rolls-Royce Manufacturing and On-Wing University Technology Centre (see: http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/utc) within the Faculty of Engineering. The Faculty has an excellent international reputation for high quality theoretical and experimental research funded by EPSRC, Innovate UK, EU and manufacturing industry.

The Rolls-Royce Manufacturing and On-Wing University Technology Centre (UTC) at the University of Nottingham is looking to recruit a researcher in robotic control to contribute to existing projects and conduct research within the expanding research groups. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced graduate/postgraduate to play a leading role in challenging projects. In particular, to coordinate and carry out theoretical and experimental work for developing control methods and architectures for robotised machine tool systems and supervised processes.

Candidates must possess a good knowledge of theoretical models and control algorithms, kinematic analysis, robotic hardware and actuation solutions and demostrate strong evidence of developing their own software/fireware to control such robotic systems. Previous expertise in developing customised robotic systems (e.g. for manipulation/surveillance) would be preferable.

Apart from being capable to lead the research work on different projects, good communication, presentation/reporting and publishing skills are required for the person appointed to effectively interact with the international academic and industrial partners collaborating with the centre. In addition to carrying out projects' work, the researcher will benefit from exposure to internationally leading industrial companies that are interested in the results of the projects and willing to collaborate on spin-out individual projects.

Candidates must possess a good first degree in mechatronics/mechanical engineering or related disciplines, and preferably a PhD degree in mechatronics/robotics or be close to completion.
This full-time post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 2 years.
