    Applications are invited for a Research Associate position for a period of up to 18 months to study bacterial infection in the context of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The post, funded by the Cross-Council AMR Initiative Theme 1

    The successful candidate will study antibiotic resistant pathogens in vivo, in the context of AMR, with particular emphasis on gene expression, the microbiota and host responses. To conduct the research, the successful candidate will join the multidisciplinary group of Professor Gad Frankel, based at the MRC Centre for Molecular Bacteriology and Infection, South Kensington Campus. The group applies molecular, cellular and proteomic methods to biological and systems biology problems.

    You must have a PhD (or equivalent) in Medical Microbiology, Bacterial Pathogenesis, or a related subject or have and equivalent level of professional qualification. You must have experience in mouse work, hold a personal license and have a successful track record in academic publication. You should also have experience in cell culture. Experience of working in a highly interdisciplinary research group and collaborating with specialists is also essential. Practical and theoretical knowledge in bacterial infection and cultivation of gut microbiota would be desirable.

    You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to write clearly and succinctly for publication. You must also be able to work as part of a team, be open-minded, relate well with others, form positive relationships with a wide range of people and be cooperative. The ability to develop and apply new concepts and have a creative approach to problem-solving will be required. You must also be able work independently, prioritise and organise your own work with minimal supervision, in response to deadlines.
