The Stojdl lab is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research scientist to work on a project developing a new oncolytic virus clinical candidate for human trials in brain cancer. The project will work in parallel on both mouse tumour models, humanised mouse models and human clinical samples. The project is focused on the characterisation of a newly discovered oncolytic virus vector engineered to act as a dual cytolytic agent and CD8+ T cell vaccine to treat malignancies of the brain. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to discover key molecular mechanisms responsible for oncolytic vaccine efficacy, as well as drive the preclinical development of this therapeutic towards phase I clinical testing. The project will further explore the utility of combination strategies with cutting-edge partner immunotherapies, such as adoptive T cell therapy and immune checkpoint inhibitors. State-of-the-art robotic high content screening facilities and flow cytomety facilities are available in the Stojdl lab.
The Stojdl lab is based at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute (CHEO RI) in Ottawa, Ontario. As one of the leading sites in oncolytic virus immunotherapy, the Stojdl lab has on-site collaborations with the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI), and access to in-house resources capable of building GMP- and GLP-compliant biologics to take our interventions from bench to bedside. The Stojdl lab has previous experience in developing other oncolytic virus platforms (vaccinia, Maraba) to Phase I/IIb clinical trials.
Critical Skills
Experience in immunology (preferably T cell)
Experience in mouse models (preferably tumour-bearing)
Excellent grasp of flow cytometry
A Ph.D in immunology, molecular biology, virology or a related field from an accredited college/university
Desirable Skills
Experience in tumour biology
Preferably not more than 3 years previous training as a postdoctoral research scientist
The ability to work in a team environment
Good oral and written communication skills in English
