Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or Level 2 within UCD School of Medicine.
The research group of Prof. Ken Wolfe at UCD School of Medicine & Conway Institute has open postdoctoral positions on two research projects: ARMSRACE and DRIVE. Both projects involve laboratory experiments in yeast molecular biology and genetics, aimed at addressing evolutionary questions about genome organisation. The projects will involve work in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and in a related yeast species Torulaspora, for which we have developed a CRISPR/Cas9 editing system.
• ARMSRACE is funded by a Science Foundation Ireland Frontiers for the Future Award. Its aim is to investigate the mechanism of action of a newly discovered family of mobile genetic elements, named WHO elements, in yeast species. WHO elements code for endonucleases that cut the genome and allow the mobile element to integrate. We aim to characterise the integration site specificity of the WHO10 family, and to investigate the role of a zinc finger domain in WHO proteins. • DRIVE is funded by an Irish Research Council Advanced Laureate Award. We recently discovered the existence of meiotic drive (non-Mendelian inheritance) in a Torulaspora species. The DRIVE project’s aim is to investigate its effect on genome organisation and evolution, and to 'transplant’ the system from Torulaspora into Saccharomyces cerevisiae to further investigate its properties.
Post Doc Level 1 Salary Range: €44,347 - €50,805 per annum

Post Doc Level 2 Salary Range: €52,193 - €56,764 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

As with the PD1, if you have already completed your PD2 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD2, or your total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 6 years, you should not apply and should refer to Research Fellow posts instead.
