    We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join the Centre for Climate Resilient Societies (CRS) within the School of Applied Sciences and SURGE at Huddersfield Business School, University of Huddersfield. With the support of the University of Huddersfield, we are seeking to appoint a RA for the project titled "Advancing Climate and Socio-economic Resilience in Sub-Saharan Africa through the Application of Innovative Monitoring, Assessment, and Technological Solutions for Sustainable Community Livelihoods”.

    The main responsibility of this position is to develop machine learning/AI algorithms for precise mapping of various land use types in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The tasks will include satellite remote sensing, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) survey, ground truth fieldwork, the application of geographical information systems (GIS), and the deployment of in-situ technologies, including various types of sensors.

    You will be involved in reviewing existing literature, designing and developing research methods, collecting and analysing data, and producing academic outputs. There will be opportunities for training in UAV operation and application, as well as collaboration with local project partners in SSA. Applicants should possess a Master's and Doctoral Qualification or be actively working toward a Doctoral Qualification in disciplines such as Geography, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science, Data Sciences, Business, International Development, or related fields. Essential qualities include a commitment to self-motivated research, a willingness to travel to rural areas in SSA, and an inquisitive and creative approach to addressing challenges.
