    The Weatheritt lab based in Sydney, Australia is currently seeking an EMBL Australia postdoctoral fellow to investigate the roles of alternatively spliced protein isoforms in the proteome. We will collaborate with the Berry lab at UNSW Sydney to use high content 4i imaging and CRISPR editing to screen for splicing events that alter cellular phenotypes. This will build on the ideas presented in our recent Nature Structural and Molecular Biology paper (PMID: 38036695) as well as in collaborative work published in Nature Biotech (PMID: 36959352).

    The position will involve the use of a range of approaches including CRISPR-Cas9 technology, APEX-sequencing, next-generation sequencing (including single-cell RNA-seq), bioinformatic tools and a variety of molecular and cell biology approaches. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in RNA biology with experience in CRISPR technology and/or single molecule imaging approaches. The fully funded role will be full-time for 1/2 years in the first instance.

    Salary: Up to $101,800 AUD (~$66K USD / ~$52K GBP) + 14% Pension contribution + salary packaging (dependent on experience)
    Employment Type: Full time 1/2-year Contract

    The key skills and experience of candidate should include:
    • PhD or MD in a relevant area
    • Experience or interest in studying fundamental aspects of RNA biology
    • Extensive experience with wet laboratory techniques is expected
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
    • Demonstrate a capacity to work collaboratively with researchers across laboratories
    • Molecular biology skills, e.g. PCR, cloning, mutagenesis
    • Experience in single molecule imaging approaches and/or CRISPR technologies
    • Proficient in computational biology and have previous experience analysing genomics data.
    • Ability to rapidly learn new skills.
    • Experience in drafting and finalising scientific manuscripts.
    • First-author publication(s) in high impact journals
    • Experience supervising students and/or junior staff
