Junior Group Leader / Early Career Investigator position with Tenure Option (f/m/x)

Our mission as research center: Discover personalized medical solutions for environmentally triggered diseases to promote a healthier society in a rapidly changing world.

Allergies are a health problem that is escalating worldwide. The aim of our research is to identify environment health risks for humans at an early stage, to decipher the mechanisms of disease development and to develop novel concepts to control allergy.

The Center for Allergy & Environment (ZAUM) focuses on allergy and asthma and is a joint institution of Helmholtz Munich and the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Thanks to its affiliation with the Klinikum Rechts der Isar and Helmholtz Munich, the ZAUM offers the opportunity to comprehensively examine the topic of allergy and asthma, both in terms of content and technology.

Critical for the progress of allergy research is the cellular and molecular understanding of mechanisms that occur at the site of epithelial barriers. The interaction of the specific, innate immune system and the epithelial barrier are key for future prevention, diagnosis and therapy of allergies in the gut, the skin or the airways. It is the aim to install a junior research group that investigates together with the research groups @ZAUM and the Helmholtz Munich Environmental Health department these interactions and finds solutions to control the allergy problem.

    Your responsibilities
    - Experimental design and development of models that allow to dissect mechanisms relevant at the epithelial barriers (in vivo, ex vivo, in vitro; human).
    - Transmitting motivation, enthusiasm and commitment to academic science, interest in habilitation & teaching.
    - Supervision of PhD students, technical staff, able to take over academic, institutional responsibilities and external representation of the institute.
