UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1



    Applications are invited for a Temporary 2 year post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems, UCD Centre for Interdisciplinary Research Education and Innovation in Health Systems (IRIS).

    The HSE’s Quality and Patient Safety Directorate (NQPSD) are establishing a national quality and patient safety surveillance system for all HSE provided and funded health and social care services NQPSD, with UCD IRIS Centre as the named academic partner for undertaking the project evaluation, has successfully obtained seed funding from Sláintecare to develop and implement a proof of concept QS Signals project with Maternity Services.

    This research project will add value to the Quality and Patient Safety Signals project through an in-depth implementation science study that will evaluate the proof of concept. The research will be underpinned by a philosophy of scientific realism and aims to answer the question “what works, for whom, why, how and in what contexts?” in terms of a quality and patient safety signals system that can address the needs of many different stakeholders - policy makers, managers, quality improvers, clinical staff and patients.

    UCD IRIS Centre, as the Research partner, will produce a realist evaluation of the proof of concept. Through this in-depth realist evaluation of the National Women and Infants Programme QS Signals proof of concept, a model of the necessary conditions and resources and supports for successful implementation will be generated to guide the scale-up of QS Signals system-wide. A Readiness and Capability Assessment for full-scale implementation will accompany the evaluation.

    This post-doctoral position offers the opportunity to work within the UCD IRIS interdisciplinary team and with key partners and collaborators in the HSE NQPSD) to deliver on this research.

    This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

    The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.


    Fixed Salary: €41,209 per annum
