The University Medical Center Göttingen is a tertiary care center and offers great development potential. Its 7,900 employees work in over 65 departments and facilities to provide top-quality patient care, excellent research and modern teaching. Göttingen, “City of Science”, located near the center of Germany, the University Medical Center Göttingen is embedded in the city’s attractive network of scientific research facilities.
About us:
We are a young team of biologists, clinician scientists, physicists and chemists establishing new optogenetic approaches with the aim to use them for specific scientific questions in muscle physiology and to develop new translational approaches. Optogenetics is a recently developed method allowing to control cellular behaviour with light after genetic manipulation. Thereby, optogenetic stimulation provides an unprecedented combination of cell-specificity and spatial as well as temporal precision and is a unique opportunity to investigate and understand the physiology and pathophysiology of muscle cells, their function within intact organs and how they are communicating among each other.
Your task:
You will be responsible for the translational projects laryngeal and gastric pacemaking with optogenetic stimulation, specifically 1) to optimize gene transfer and expression of optogenetic proteins and 2) to characterize the immunological response against optogenetic treatments. Methods include cloning, cell culture, immunohistochemistry, FACS, force measurements. You will also participate in teaching tasks of the Institute.
Your profile:
• highly motivated and interested researcher
• team-orientated and cooperative
• completed PhD / MD in Life Sciences / Physics / Chemistry
Our offer:
• structured programs and career development (for example Hertha-Sponer- College)
• competitive and collaborative research environment (CRC1002, MBExC cluster of excellence, DFG funding)
• state-of-the-art methods focused on optogenetics and muscle physiology with access to all core facilities and cutting edge techniques at the Göttingen Campus
Your application should include a full curriculum vitae, a statement addressing your motivation and ability to work within a close network of different research groups and provide the names and contact details of at least two referees.
