Remotewind PD1
Postdoctoral Research Position Available in Engineering at Trinity College Dublin
The School of Engineering, Trinity College Dublin, seeks to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the REMOTE-WIND (Remote and autonomous inspection and maintenance of onshore and offshore wind turbines) project.
The successful candidate will support research in wind power generation, in the context of the REMOTE-WIND project funded by Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). The successful candidate will be working with a vibrant team of researchers to drive world-class research around the development of advanced solutions for instrumented air and water-borne drones, with non-contact measurement for bespoke autonomous inspection and monitoring of onshore/offshore wind turbines to assess their lifetime safety and serviceability performance and take better decisions around maintenance, repowering and decommissioning.
The REMOTE-WIND project will carry out full-scale demonstrations for onshore and offshore farms, venturing significantly beyond laboratory tests and small academic exercises. The project will assimilate fundamental physics, sensors, robotics and cutting-edge analytics to create scientific insights and translates them to technology and commercial practice.
Candidates for the Postdoctoral position must have completed all the requirements for a PhD in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering or a related field. Research experience in image analysis is required. A strong background in computer programming, machine learning/deep learning, and sensor technology is highly desirable. Active interest in drones and IoT is recommended.
Project Team: Prof. Bidisha Ghosh is the Principal Investigator of the REMOTE-WIND project. She is the lead of the QUANT research group which constitutes a multidisciplinary team of engineers, computer scientists and physicists researching a multitude of projects on transportation, traffic emission, renewable energy and remote sensing. Prof. Breiffni Fitzgerald is the Co-PI of the project.
