A Postdoctoral Research Assistant position is available in Dr Guifen Chen’s group in the Department of Psychology. The group studies spatial navigation and memory in rodents, using state-of-the-art in vivo electrophysiology techniques including the latest Neuropixels probes and a two-dimensional virtual reality apparatus recently pioneered by Dr Chen (Chen et al, Elife 2018, Nature Communications 2019).

The post is full-time, with the initial three years of funding secured from BBSRC. The successful candidate should have a PhD in Neuroscience, Engineering, Mathematics or a similar field and be familiar with concepts and questions of systems neuroscience. Experience with animal work, electrophysiological recording, and data analysis in Matlab/Python is essential. Experience with Virtual reality, Neuropixels probes and/or Open Ephys is desirable. Evidence of effective communication with demonstrable outcomes is highly appreciated. Self-motivation, an ability to work as part of a team and excellent research management skills are essential.
