Applications are invited for a Category 3 Microbiologist to join the Laboratory Management Team within Science Operations at Quadram Institute Bioscience (QIB), based in Norwich, UK.
Background:
Funded by the BBSRC Core Capability Grant the post provides support to workers in the Institute Strategic Programmes (ISPs) wishing to have category level 3 experiments run, or to be trained to undertake their own experiments.
The role:
The CL3 Microbiologist will provide expertise to support a range of users in QIB. They will undertake specific project work for groups lacking in CL3 qualified staff and assist in the supervision, training and qualification of new CL3 users. They will also undertake risk assessments and SOPs as required, and support and train others to do so.
Additionally, they will support the general management of the CL3 facility under the CL3 Laboratory Manager and act as their Deputy. This will involve monitoring health and safety and other practices in the facility, dealing with breakdowns and callouts on a rota system and covering for the Laboratory Manager in their absence. They will be expected to liaise with engineers and H&S staff as needed and to help with the twice-annual maintenance shut-downs.
The ideal candidate:
The ideal candidate will hold a Degree in Microbiology or Biology, and a PHD or extensive practical experience in a commercial environment. They will have practical microbiology skills in a CL3 setting and understand the physical operation of a containment laboratory. Their experience of working with pathogens in a CL3 environment will be evident, including their ability to undertake risk assessments and prepare SOPs.
Additional information:
Salary on appointment will be within the range £32,578 to £39,928 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time post for a contract of 3 years.
