An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the laboratory of Dr Laila Moubayidin at the John Innes Centre.

    About the John Innes Centre:

The John Innes Centre is an independent, international centre of excellence in plant and microbial genetics. We nurture a creative, curiosity-led approach to answering fundamental questions in bioscience, and translate that knowledge into societal benefits.

Our employees enjoy access to state-of-the-art technology and a diverse range of specialist training opportunities, including support for leadership and management. Click here to find out more about working at the John Innes Centre.

    About the Moubayidin Group:

The Moubayidin group is supported by the Royal Society and the John Innes Centre. The group aims to reveal the mechanisms at the cellular, molecular and genetic level that determines the establishment of ground (basic) symmetry during organ formation (Moubayidin and Østergaard 2014 Curr Biol 24, 2743-8; Carabelli et al 2021 Nature Comms 12, 4321).

    The role:

The successful applicant will study the cellular mechanism(s) controlling symmetry establishment during plant organ development. They will plan and conduct a wide range of microscopy techniques, with a special focus on quantitative confocal analysis using MorphoGraphX .

The post holder will use Arabidopsis thaliana as a model system and other plant systems where appropriate, e.g., N.benthamiana leaves, BY2 cells. They will also deliver presentations, act as a role model, and promote a collaborative working environment.

    The ideal candidate:

The candidate must possess a PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology, Plant Biology, or related discipline. Advanced knowledge and proficiency in confocal microscopy analysis, Arabidopsis developmental genetics and cell biology is essential. Previous experience in molecular biology and biochemistry methods is desirable.

The successful candidate will be expected to interpret data with a mature degree of independence, to be a good communicator and to show problem-solving skills and team-building behaviour.

    Additional information:

Interviews will be held on 3rd March 2022.
