Research Fellow in Bioprocess Data Analytics and Mathematical Modelling, - Ref:1880244

The Future Targeted Healthcare Manufacturing Hub is an international programme hosted by the Advanced Centre for Biochemical Engineering (ACBE) at UCL with funding from the EPSRC and a user consortium. The Hub has collaborative academic Spokes at Imperial College London and the Universities of Loughborough, Manchester, Nottingham and Warwick. The Hub network of international companies and universities brings together process engineers, life scientists, pharmacists, mechanical engineers, public policy scientists and health economists.

It has a team of over 10 postdoctoral researchers across the Hub and Spokes to create innovative manufacturing and formulation routes, analytical and process control methods, and associated computational decision-support frameworks, to revolutionise the delivery of cost-effective stratified protein-based and personalised cell-based therapies to patients.

This PDRA will be part of the EPSRC-funded Future Targeted Healthcare Manufacturing Hub. The PDRA in Bioprocess Data Analytics and Mathematical Modelling, at UCL, will develop and apply advanced data mining and modelling techniques across a range of problems relevant to enabling targeted healthcare process development and manufacturing. These include developing multivariate data analysis and machine learning algorithms for bioprocess analysis and leveraging data from advanced PAT devices and digital twins to enhance control for stratified protein and personalised cell and gene therapy manufacture, and developing manufacturability indices for co-formulation combination protein therapies. The PDRA will create user-friendly interfaces and full documentation for the software tools so as to disseminate them to the user consortium and future researchers.

While the Hub is funded for seven years in total, positions will be offered for two years initially, and extended where necessary on a yearly basis. The post is available immediately.

    [[Key Requirements]]

The candidate will possess knowledge of mathematical optimization and modelling, in-depth knowledge of the methods of multivariate statistical analysis and visualization research techniques as well as writing, debugging and documentation of advanced engineering or scientific codes such as Python or MATLAB. A PhD degree in process engineering or biochemical engineering or computer science is required.

Advanced research and project management skills are essential, as well as an ability to work in a multidisciplinary collaborative and teamwork environment with excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
