Seeking world-class photonics researchers
Owing to substantial recent funding in the areas of hollow core optical fibres (and their applications in telecommunication, lasers and sensing), high power fibre lasers and optical data storage using fs-laser inscription in glass, we are seeking outstanding researchers to join our world-leading research centre to fill a number of posts.

Our researchers are focused on innovative solutions to real life problems across a broad range of industries. Using a multidisciplinary approach to combine science and engineering disciplines, our research institute provides an extremely fertile ground for discovery.

We are looking for early and mid-career research fellows with a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in the field of Photonics, to join our vibrant research community and help us to shape the future. A primary requirement is an excellent track record in the field of Photonics, although experience in one or more of the following areas is also desirable:

• Optical fibre fabrication
• Optical fibre design and characterisation
• Optical amplifiers
• Optical fibre communications/data communications
• High power lasers
• Sensing and metrology
• Laser science
• Femtosecond lasers and laser-based materials processing

As a member of our team you will work with some of the best- known names in the field and take advantage of our £120M cleanroom complex which incorporates state-of-the-art optical fibre and integrated optics fabrication facilities, as well as a full silicon processing line and an extensive suite of biolabs.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
