The Department of Applied IT is carrying out research and education within the complete milieus Informatics, Learning and Visualization. As part of both Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg the research is encompassing many different disciplines with high relevance for the community. The education is characterized by the interplay between people, people and technology as well as technology’s relation to organizations and the surrounding community. Just over a hundred members of staff work at the department in one of the research and educational milieus. The department is located at Campus Lindholmen and has close co operations with industry and the public sector.

The position is within the interaction design division where current research concerns the development of interactive artifacts where ICT is a central component. The field has its roots in human-computer interaction but has grown to include design of user interfaces with advanced visualizations and interactive simulations and games. Interaction design is a multidisciplinary field where knowledge from programming, electronics, aesthetics, cognitive science, graphical design, and psychology all play roles and collaboration over disciplinary boundaries is common. Regardless of the intended area of use, the design of interaction between people and technologies requires a holistic perspective incorporating aspects of software engineering as well as industrial and product design.

Major responsibilities
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow in the research area of Computer Graphics with a special focus on Computational Animation. This area combines research into computer graphics, optimization, and massively parallel algorithms. The objective of this post-doctoral research project is to significantly advance the state-of-the-art of interactive physics-based animation to replicate the motion and the properties of soft objects like cloth, fabric, hair, skin, etc.

Specifically, this will involve the design of new data structures and parallel algorithms to obtain more accurate animations of deformable bodies in real-time, including collision handling.

Ideal candidates will have a proven track record that demonstrates high-quality practical research. Candidates with demonstrated experience and a high quality publication record on one or several of the following topics are of particular interest:

- Physics-based animation;

- High-performance graphics;

- Reduced physics, simulation, and control.

While the postdoctoral fellow will be working in collaboration with other researchers at the department, he or she is expected to be the main responsible for the planning and implementation of the research work packages requirements and evaluation.

Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position also includes teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment starting from Oct 1, 2017. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1) with a review after the first year. Average salary for a postdoc is 36 050 kr/month. Full-time temporary employment.

1) A PhD degree in a relevant field

2) A strong academic track record documented by CV and publications

3) A concrete and creative idea for one’s own research that fit within the areas of computational animation and physics-based simulation and adds some additional contributions.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
