The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £34,056 -£41,163 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

The MRC-LMCB is inviting applications for a postdoctoral researcher to join the Baum and Henriques labs as part of an international Wellcome consortium studying the evolution of eukaryotic cytoskeletal systems that have their origins in archaea. Ultimately, this work aims to shed light on the origins of eukaryotic cell organization - one of the great outstanding questions in biology today.
The post-doctoral researcher will use computational approaches to explore the impact of protein sequence changes on the evolution of cytoskeletal filament structure, activity and function at different length and time scales. The post-holder will sit in the theory lab at the MRC-LMCB, working closely with members of UCL’s new Institute for the Physics of Living Systems.

The position is funded by the Wellcome Trust and is available for three years in the first instance from Feb/March 2017.

Applicants should have a BSc and PhD in a relevant field and extensive research experience studying the cytoskeleton. Experience in biophysics, structural biology, phylogenomics and/or computational modelling will be useful. Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £31,432 per annum) with payment at research associate Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis once awarded

For any problems with applying, please contact Ione Karney ( [email protected] ) and if you have queries regarding the position please contact Professor Buzz Baum ( [email protected] ) .
