The Role Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary University goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued.

We are seeking a three-year Post-Doctoral Researcher in the area of experimental optics/optical engineering. The Postdoc will be involved in building a number of novel optical microscopes that utilise Raman spectroscopy and digital holographic microscopy. The role is centred around the design and use of optical systems utilising lasers, opto-mechanical components, and electro-optics. The Postdoc will be involved in building a number of optical systems including a Raman micro-spectrometer, a digital holographic microscope, a holographic optical tweezers, and a microscope that is based around broadband Coherent anti-Stokes Raman Spectroscopy (bCARS).

Experience in building any of these systems is desirable. Experience with data acquisition cards, LabView or Micromanager, instrumentation development, hardware control and signal acquisition will also be desirable. There is a heavy emphasis on image processing in the project, which will require knowledge of signal processing and programming with C++ or Matlab. Any experience with handling/analysing biological samples would also be beneficial but is not essential. The role also includes supervising PhD students.
