      Recruitment

The Institute of Cancer Research (a College of the University of London) is a world-class cancer research organisation with nationally leading HEFCE RAE ratings. In partnership with The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, we form the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, dedicated to research that extends from epidemiology, genetics and molecular biology, through drug discovery and development, to cancer diagnosis and patient treatment. This makes us uniquely placed to work towards our vision that people may live their lives free from the fear of cancer as a life threatening disease.

The Section of Magnetic Resonance focuses on translating preclinical applications of magnetic resonance and other imaging techniques to clinical tools for detection, diagnosis and assessment of cancer and combines expertise from scientists and clinicians based at both the Institute of Cancer Research and Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.

A full-time post of Post Doctoral Research Fellow is available, for 18 months in the first instance, to complete a project funded by the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust (SDBTT) to identify in pre-clinical studies potential non-invasive biomarkers for the effects of Phosphoinositide 3-Kinase (PI3K) inhibition in high-grade glioma models in collaboration with the Section of Paediatric Oncology.

Duties will involve experimental planning, growing cells and propagating tumours for treatment with various PI3K inhibitors, performing MRS studies on xenografts, extracting cells/tumours and preparing samples for metabolic analysis by NMR as well as undertaking molecular and other analyses of solid tumours and cell lines.

The successful applicant should have a PhD degree in an appropriate discipline (biological, physical, chemical, physiological science) and should have laboratory experience. They should be competent in general molecular biology. Experience in animal work including propagation of xenograft tumour models would be a particular advantage.

The appointment is a fixed term appointment for 18 months in the first instance. The PDTF starting salary is in the range £26,996 to £37,476 p.a. inclusive depending on experience.

Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Nada Al-Saffar (e-mail: [email protected]) or Prof Martin Leach ([email protected]). Please Note – these email addresses are for enquiries only; CVs must be submitted in line with the instructions below.
