      Recruitment

The Institute of Cancer Research (a College of the University of London) is a world-class cancer research organization, receiving the highest average score of all institutions in the RAE. In partnership with The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, we form the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, dedicated to research that extends from epidemiology, genetics and molecular biology, through drug discovery and development, to cancer diagnosis and patient treatment. This makes us uniquely placed to work towards our vision that people may live their lives free from the fear of cancer as a life threatening disease.
The MR Section has a range of clinical and experimental MR systems and extensive computing facilities. As part of a joint Technology Strategy Board project with the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and Specialty Magnetics Ltd, we are developing a dedicated MR system to support the diagnosis, biopsy and cryotreatment of breast cancer. The project involves integration of MR imaging hardware, implementation and optimisation of measurement and analysis methods, development of targeting software to allow interactive sampling and treatment of lesions, monitoring of treatment and assessment of response. This will be followed by experimental and clinical evaluation of the hardware and software.
A Post Doctoral Research Fellow is required to integrate and test equipment, help develop RF coils, implement pulse sequences, develop and integrqte measurement and analysis approaches, together with methods for guiding and monitoring treatment. The Appointee will be based at the Institute’s site at Sutton, Surrey, and will be expected to spend part of his/her time at the Rutherford Laboratory, Oxfordshire and at clinical evaluation sites. Experience in MR hardware, sequence development, image processing and analysis is desirable, together with a strong understanding of MR theory and an ability in computer programming.
The appointment is fixed term until September 30th 2012. The PDTF starting salary is in the range £29,695 p.a. to £32,024 p.a. inclusive.
