Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Quantum Chaos / Condensed Matter Theory

Applications are invited for a fourteen month postdoctoral research assistantship to work with Dr Sebastian Müller in the School of Mathematics, University of Bristol. The position is part of an EPSRC funded project at the interface of quantum chaos and condensed matter theory. In condensed matter and cold atom research, fully or partially chaotic systems are increasingly coming into focus. Here chaos can arise from a chaotic single-particle dynamics, from interactions, or due to the nonlinear character of the Gross-Pitaevski equation. The aim of the project is to develop mathematical methods to deal with chaos in many-particle systems, and to investigate its effect on the quantum behavior of these systems. It will draw on recent developments in the semiclassical theory of quantum chaos.

The start date for the position will be 1st April 2011, or later or slightly earlier by mutual agreement. Applications (including CV, list of publications, and research statement) can be submitted online on http://www.bris.ac.uk/boris/jobs/feeds/ads?ID=91670 until 21st January (9am). Applicants should also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to:

    [email protected]
    Sebastian Müller
    School of Mathematics
    University of Bristol
    Bristol BS8 1TW.

It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure that the reference letters are received by the closing date.
