The Institute of Cancer Research, London, is one of the world’s most influential cancer research organisations, with an outstanding record of achievement dating back more than 100 years. We provided the first convincing evidence that DNA damage is the basic cause of cancer, and discovered many of the early chemotherapy drugs. Today, The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) leads the world at isolating cancer-related genes and discovering new targeted drugs for personalised cancer treatment. The ICR is ranked as the UK’s leading academic research centre. Our unique partnership with The Royal Marsden and ‘bench-to-bedside’ approach allows us to create and deliver results in a way that other institutions cannot. Together we are rated in the top four cancer centres globally. The ICR is committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world to join us in our mission – to make the discoveries that defeat cancer.

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientific Officer to join the Target Discovery and Apoptosis Team (Leader, Dr Spiros Linardopoulos), who will make a major contribution in the validation of new targets for drug development, the development of biomarkers and cell-based assays for current and future programmes.

The successful applicant will hold a PhD in molecular/cell biology or equivalent qualification, and have a significant level of experience including a thorough understanding and experience of drug development processes such as target validation and lead optimisation, and experience in biochemical and cell-based HTS assays and preclinical biomarker development in cancer.

Starting salary will be in the range £39,211 to £42,947 p.a. inclusive (based on previous experience). Appointment will be on a fixed term contract of 2 years in the first instance.

Informal enquiries to Spiros Linardopoulos (Tel: 020 7153 5341; email: [email protected]).

Please note that applications must be submitted via the ICR web site at www.icr.ac.uk.
