Postdoctoral Scientist – Cell Biology
Salary Range £30,464 – £33,305 per annum
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge UK
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Scientist position in the Group of Dr Katja Röper. The successful candidate will be part of a collaboration between Dr Katja Röper and Dr Mariann Bienz of the LMB and Dr Julie Williams of AstraZeneca. You will lead a project on how the understanding of tubulogenesis in human renal organoids can inform the process of repair in the damaged kidney. We want to build on, further characterise and improve already available human kidney organoid models that have been shown to contain all relevant epithelial tubular structures. We want to determine the phenotype of these structures after injury and after extended periods of recovery. We will reconstitute missing elements of salient pathways in order to establish if these are enough to initiate a return to ‘normal’. Finally, we will investigate these mechanisms in organoids derived from renal patient tissues. Success in this project would allow the development of modalities targeting the important pathways promoting renal tubular regeneration.
Candidates should have a PhD in a Cell Biology, Developmental Biology or Biochemistry-related subject or due to complete their doctoral studies within 6 months of applying. You should ideally have experience of epithelial culture/organoid culture or Wnt signalling, immunofluorescence labelling, and confocal analysis.
The successful candidate will be awarded either an MRC Career Development Fellowship or MRC Postdoctoral Training Scheme, for a fixed-term period. This is a training and development position for a Postdoctoral Scientist who has recently completed doctoral studies or is moving into a new research discipline.
The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology is one of the birthplaces of molecular biology and excels at deciphering the molecular mechanisms of life.
