    Title of Post: Post-Doctoral Researcher in Rumen Metabolism of Dairy Cows
    (Fixed 3 year term)

    Department: Animal Production, Welfare and Veterinary Sciences

    Reports to: Prof. Liam A. Sinclair

    The Main Duties and Responsibilities include:

    As a member of a research team, under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) and the
    sponsoring company (Alltech) you will:

    • Take responsibility for planning and conducting an experimental program of research on manipulating rumen fermentation in dairy cows
    • Contribute to the design and implementation of future research programs

    • Undertake associated laboratory analysis, and develop new techniques as required

    • Present regular updates to members of the research Alliance

    • Make conference presentations and write papers as agreed with the PI, and provide briefings and talks to industry

    • Manage the day to day routine of technicians, undergraduates and post-graduates involved with the research

    • Provide advice and assistance for research students and undergraduates as required

    Qualifications and Experience.

    • Applicants should have or shortly obtain a PhD in rumen metabolism, dairy cow nutrition, or ruminant nutrition

    • Have good laboratory skills in relevant areas such as proximate analysis, GC, HPLC, ICP-MS and PCR

    • Have published in high quality, peer reviewed journals

    • Be able to demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative to plan and manage their workload, and be able to lead a research team to meet milestones and deliverables

    • Have a working knowledge of Home Office Regulations (preferably holding a Personal Licence), animal hygiene requirements/Health and Safety regulations

    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present to both industry and academic audiences

    • High attention to detail.

    • A full, clean driving licence is desirable
