Postdoctoral Researcher in Biomechanics
Nr Potters Bar, Hertfordshire and Camden, London
c. £33.7k pa, includes London Weighting
This is a fixed term contract until 30 September 2021.
We are searching for a highly motivated, independent, multidisciplinary Postdoctoral Researcher who will work in the Structure & Motion Lab. You will, in coordination with external collaborators, another postdoc, a technician and an administrative assistant as well as the project’s Principal Investigator, conduct comparative biomechanics research investigating the evolution of locomotion in terrestrial vertebrates (specifically, archosaurs; the lineage including crocodiles, birds, Mesozoic dinosaurs and other groups). The work will heavily involve biomechanical analysis including analysis of experimental data such as 3D imaging using x-ray fluoroscopy (“XROMM”), CT and other scan data of recent and fossil animals, plus computer simulation of locomotor biomechanics.
This “DAWNDINOS” project is funded by the ERC (EU Horizon 2020) and is led by the PI, Prof. John R. Hutchinson, along with other collaborators. More information on our team:

https://dawndinos.com/You will lead in all stages of the research. This includes collection and analysis of cadaveric/existing experimental data and implementing Good Research Practice and Health and Safety practices. Skills in biomechanical analysis involving (essential) dynamic computer simulation of locomotion (e.g. OpenSim), and (desirable) experimental analysis of locomotion (e.g. XROMM; inverse dynamics analysis; Matlab programming) are essential to the project and must be evidenced by peer-reviewed journal publications demonstrating these skills.
We are looking for candidates with a PhD qualification (awarded, not pending examination) and with extremely relevant research experience in biomechanics or a closely related field, who also have experience of conducting world class research.
In return we offer a generous reward package, including free use of our new Sports and Wellbeing Centre.
