Postdoctoral Research Assistant

A Postdoctoral Research Assistant position is available at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in the group of Dr Christian Nielsen to work on the development of novel organic bioelectronic sensors for epilepsy diagnosis within a project sponsored by the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Wellcome Trust.

This particular research position will focus on the synthesis and characterization of novel conjugated organic materials for use in organic bioelectronics, specifically focusing on the development of new organic materials for efficient conduction of both ions and electronic charges. The successful applicant will synthesise and characterise the materials which will subsequently be tested in collaboration with project partners in the US and Mexico. The successful applicant will work within the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences at QMUL under the direct supervision of Dr Christian Nielsen but will also collaborate closely with the other partners in the project to investigate the biosensing properties and biocompatibility of these new materials.

The ideal candidate for this position should have a PhD in organic chemistry or a related field and be able to work effectively and sociably within a team and have an interest/knowledge in materials science. Experience in synthetic organic chemistry, conjugated small molecule and polymer synthesis and the ability to interact within an interdisciplinary research area are vital.
