Postdoctoral Research Assistant

School of Biological & Chemical Sciences
    Postdoctoral Research Assistant
    QMUL11564

A Postdoctoral Research Assistant position is available at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) as part of a joint project between QMUL and the Middle East Technical University (METU), co-funded by the British Council and Tübitak. The programme “Interface design for high efficiency solution processed solar cells” seeks to develop new interface material to enhance charge extraction from organic, respectively organic hybrid perovskite, photovoltaics.
This particular research position will focus on the design and synthesis of new conjugated polyelectrolytes and their incorporation as interfacial layers into organic and hybrid perovskite solar cells. You will work within the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences at QMUL under the direct supervision of Dr. Bob C. Schroeder, but will also closely collaborate with the research group of Prof. Levent Toppare at Middle East Technical University, who will be performing the device fabrication and testing.
The candidate will be the leading synthetic chemist on the project and in charge of ensuring adequate material synthesis as well as timely delivery of sample material to the project partners. The project aims at gaining a better understanding on how conjugated electrolytes interact at the semiconductor-electrode interface and how their properties can be systematically optimized to match the particularities of organic and hybrid perovskite photovoltaics. The ideal candidate for this position should have a PhD in synthetic chemistry or polymer chemistry. Experience in the field of organic electronics, respectively perovskite semiconductors, would be desirable as would a track record of peer-reviewed publications.
This is a full-time, fixed term post available until 31st March 2019 and with a possible extension thereafter. The likely start date is 1st August 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. The starting salary is £ £32,405 per annum and is inclusive of London allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, final salary pension scheme and an interest–free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
Informal enquiries for further information are welcomed and may be made to Dr. Bob C. Schroeder email [email protected] or Tel +44 (0)20 7882 5582.
