    PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Recent progress in optical fibers and photonic crystal fibers continue to provide new scientific insights and real-life applications in many fields. The proposed project is for one postdoctoral scholar who will investigate new specialty fibers and methods for the remote monitoring of biomedical and environmental conditions towards commercial applications with the collaboration of four Canadian industrial partners, including Aligo Innovation. The research will be performed within the department of electrical engineering at the Ecole de Technologie Supérieure (ETS, http://en.etsmtl.ca), a dynamic and rapidly growing engineering-only university located in the remarkably diverse city of Montreal, Canada (http://www.375mtl.com/en/).

Our research group focuses on the design of specialty optical fibers and microstructured fibers, and their use as a platform for devising novel photonic devices. Our research activities are supported by provincial and federal government grants.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD degree with laboratory experience in optics and photonics, manipulation of lasers and fiber-optics, as well as publishing experience in scientific journals. The candidate is also expected to work on related projects with collaborators and mentor junior (under-)graduate researchers. An internationally competitive salary is offered for 1 year (and renewable after each year). The expected start of the position is in the summer of 2017 (or early fall 2017 at the latest).

    APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

We invite prospective candidates to send their CV (including the contact information of at least 2 potential referees) along with a cover letter to: Prof. Bora Ung, [email protected]
Informal queries about this position are welcomed.
