    Research Associate in Computational Modelling of in utero Acoustics and Vibration

    The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £34,056 - £41,163 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

    We are seeking a postdoctoral research associate to develop and validate computational models describing the propagation of acoustic waves from ex vivo and in vivo sources into the womb, and to help quantify their effects on the developing fetus. Using anatomical scans, meshes suitable for finite element and boundary element computing will be generated, and simulations will be launched on a high-performance computing platform. While it is expected that commercial and/or open source software will initially be used, a strong emphasis will be placed on computationally efficient algorithms and robust software development.

    This post is funded for two years in the first instance.

    It is essential prospective applicants have a Honours degree (2:1 or above) or equivalent in Mathematics, Engineering, Physics or Computer Science. In addition it is essential that candidates possess a PhD or equivalent industry experience in at least one of the follow subjects: Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or in a relevant area for the post you are applying for.

    For this post it is essential candidates possess experience in computing programming using C/C++, Python and Matlab which shall be tested on prior to interview, experience with finite element methods, possess knowledge of boundary element methods, have a demonstrable record of publications in peer-reviewed conference proceedings and scientific meetings and candidates must be proficient in the use of applied mathematics.

    Though not essential it is desirable candidates possess experience with Linux environment, be competent in mesh generation from medical images, have experience of working within a clinical environment or closely with medical staff and have an awareness of human response to sound and vibration safety standards and regulations.
