Postdoctoral Scientist – Structural Studies
Starting Salary £30,162 to £32,975 per annum
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge UK
Applications are invited for an experienced postdoctoral researcher to work in the laboratory of Dr David Neuhaus at the MRC LMB Cambridge, in a collaboration with Dr Kevin Embrey at AstraZeneca. The successful applicant will join a project working on the structural and mechanistic basis of a key multi-domain enzyme involved in DNA repair and tumorogenesis, using solution state NMR spectroscopy as the main tool. The project aims to establish how different types of DNA damage are recognised by combinations of protein domains, as well as characterising DNA-dependent inter-domain interactions and dynamics that underlie enzyme activation. State-of-the-art NMR experiments will be used in conjunction with a variety of stable-isotope labelling strategies, in addition to other biophysical and biochemical approaches as needed.
You should have extensive previous experience in protein NMR spectroscopy to at least PhD level, including preparation and purification of isotope labelled proteins; experience with expressing and purifying deuterated protein samples, as well as with other biophysical and biochemical techniques for characterising protein-DNA interactions would be an advantage. You should be able to demonstrate skills in working independently and within a team to solve experimental problems.
The successful applicant will be awarded a two year Career Development Fellowship/MRC Postdoctoral Training Scheme with a potential 3rd year extension following assesment by the funder. The fellowship is a training and development position for a Postdoctoral Scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies.
The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology is one of the birthplaces of molecular biology and excels at deciphering the molecular mechanisms of life. It provides an unsurpassed environment for both new and established researchers. Scientists are drawn to the LMB from all over the world, creating a lively and international community for the exchange of ideas and technical innovation.
Working for the MRC provides a whole host of benefits including a final salary pension scheme, Benenden Healthcare membership and excellent holiday entitlement. You will also have access to employee shopping/travel discounts, on site sport and social facilities, as well as salary sacrifice cycle to work schemes and childcare vouchers.
