The role of the transfer RNA repertoire in generating secretory phenotypes during epithelial homeostasis and cancer
We are seeking an ambitious postdoctoral fellow to work on a research project investigating how genetic alterations to the tRNA repertoire influence ribosome function to generate secretory phenotypes during intestinal differentiation & fibroblast activation, and how this can generate microenvironments that promote cancer progression. You will join the MicroRNA Regulation of Gene Expression group led by Professor Martin Bushell and work in collaboration with Profs. Jim Norman and Owen Sansom at the Beatson Institute in Glasgow. The project will be of interest to those seeking to work on novel aspects of cell biology in the context of cancer and wishing to undertake cross-disciplinary approaches to medical science and cancer research. http://tox.mrc.ac.uk/research/bushell-group/ You should have completed, or be about to complete, a PhD in a field relevant to mRNA biology and have published primary research papers (or have these papers in revision/in press) on relevant topics. An understanding of the mechanisms underlying cancer together with expertise in translational control, deep sequencing/high throughput methodologies and mammalian cell culture is essential. Experience of ribosome profiling and bioinformatics would be advantageous.
