Postdoctoral Scientist - PNAC - Dr Roger Williams - LMB 1684

    Postdoctoral Researcher
    Salary Range £32,302 - £35,143 per annum
    3 years
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK

There are up to four posts available to work within the group of Roger Williams at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), on a Cancer Research UK-funded programme aimed at understanding lysosomal control of cell proliferation and stress responses in cancer cells. This programme concerns regulation of VPS34, mTOR and ATM-containing kinase complexes. The work involves cryo-electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, H/D exchange mass spectrometry and single-molecule kinetics as well as other biophysical and biochemical approaches. The candidate will join a vibrant team of researchers investigating phosphoinositide 3-kinase family members in large, reconstituted signalling assemblies that detect nutritional and stress signals.

This is a unique opportunity to play a major role in exciting programme, introduce new ideas, and disseminate research results, while working in a collaborative and supportive environment. Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree (or be due to complete a Ph.D. within 6 months of applying) and should have a strong interest in structural biology. Ideally, the candidate would have some practical experience in single-particle cryo-EM, electron cryo-tomography, structural mass spectrometry, computational structural biology or X-ray crystallography. The ability to help foster collaborative spirit within the group and LMB is essential.

The successful applicant will be awarded a 3-year Career Development Fellowship/ Postdoctoral Training Scheme position. This is a training and development position for a Postdoctoral Scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies, is moving into a new research discipline or has limited experience of key transferable skills. The MRC LMB has excellent scientific core facilities and training opportunities.

The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology is a research institute within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). UKRI is an entity that brings together nine partners to create an independent organisation with a strong voice for research and innovation, more information can be found at www.ukri.org.

Working for UKRI MRC provides a whole host of benefits including a defined benefit pension scheme, excellent holiday entitlement (40 ½ days including bank holidays and privilege days) and Benenden Healthcare membership. You will also have access to employee shopping/ travel discounts, on site sport and social facilities, as well as salary sacrifice cycle to work schemes and childcare vouchers.
