Higher Research Scientist In Emissions And Atmospheric Metrology

    About the Role
The Emissions and Atmospheric Metrology Group within the Atmospheric Environmental Science Department carries out world-leading measurement science research, disseminates best practice and delivers traceability and calibration of environmental emissions and atmospheric measurements, from the highest point of reference in the laboratory to application in industry. The group provides this range of scientific services to a wide variety of stakeholders including industry, regulators, government and research communities.

We are looking for two Higher Research Scientists to join NPL’s emissions and atmospheric metrology group to support the growth of our net zero carbon emissions research areas.

    About You
We are looking to recruit two highly motivated scientists or engineers to support the growth in our net zero carbon emissions research areas within the emissions and atmospheric metrology group.

You will have a relevant science or engineering degree, ideally a PhD, and some experience working within a laboratory environment. You will be comfortable planning and delivering new analytical methods and understand measurement science/uncertainties.

A background working with pressurised gas systems, hydrogen or CCS would be ideal.

Experience with understanding industrial strategy and supporting project bidding would be desirable, but not essential.

These roles will involve a balance of experimental work in the laboratory with data analysis, scientific paper and report writing, equipment maintenance and customer facing activities. You must be able to work independently or as part of a team to achieve goals set by senior scientists to advance innovation in the laboratories. Great communication skills and an enthusiasm for science are essential and you will be challenged to think for yourself. You can expect opportunities to solve real-world science and engineering problems in the laboratory. Beyond that, we’re looking for someone who’ll thrive in an environment like ours. These are lab-based positions, at our laboratories in Teddington and you will be expected to work mainly on-site.

Please note: Applications will be reviewed, and interviews conducted throughout the duration of this advert therefore we may at any time bring the closing date forward. We encourage all interested applicants to apply as soon as practical.
