The role
We are currently seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the Rosalind Franklin Institute (the Franklin) as part of the EUbOPEN consortium: chemical probe development project. The €66M EUbOPEN consortium (
https://www.eubopen.org/), funded through the EU’s Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI), has been established to enable and unlock biology through the availability of chemical probes. Within this consortium, the role of the Franklin is to develop methods that can accelerate the discovery of high-quality probes for diverse target proteins.
A high-throughput facility is being established by the Franklin to transform molecular discovery capabilities. The facility enables the development of efficient and integrated methods for automated microscale chemical synthesis, reaction analysis, product purification/formatting, and biological evaluation. As a technical specialist within the Next Generation Chemistry theme of Rosalind Franklin Institute, you will develop and execute high-throughput synthetic methods that can accelerate probe discovery. You will build on, extend and apply a toolkit of prioritised automated synthetic methods. Crucially, you will demonstrate that the methods can be applied to live chemical probe discovery projects within the EUbOPEN consortium. Your tasks will be largely associated with diverse equipment within the Franklin’s High-Throughput Molecular Discovery facility such as chemistry robotics, analytical LC-MS instruments and mass-directed purification equipment. You will collaborate with scientists from the University of Oxford’s Centre for Medicines Discovery as well as other researchers within the EUbOPEN project.
About you
Candidates must hold a PhD qualification (or close to completion), or equivalent experience, relevant to the synthesis of small-molecule chemical probes. We are looking for candidates with demonstrable practical experience of establishing and exemplifying synthetic methods of direct relevance to bioactive molecular discovery. Experience of ensuring that laboratory work is conducted safely and in accordance with statutory requirements and local regulations, as well as the ability to develop programming skills needed to control the facility’s instruments and to document experiments and protocols thoroughly and concisely, are essential for this role.
