This project, funded through a US-Ireland R&D Tripartite Collaborative Project award to Professor David MacHugh, seeks to leverage computational biology, stem cell biology and advanced genome editing to identify natural sequence variants (NSVs) in key genes and genomic regulatory elements (GREs) associated with the bovine host macrophage response to infection with Mycobacterium bovis.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

Complete in vitro challenge experiments with gamma-irradiated Mycobacterium bovis infection of genome-edited induced pluripotent stem cell-derived macrophages (iPSCDM).

Complete standard computational genomics and bioinformatics methodologies to analyse RNA seq data from iPSCDM infected with gamma-irradiated M. bovis.

Complete network biology and integrative genomics approaches to dissect the response of genome-edited iPSCDM to infection with gamma-irradiated M. bovis.

Provide support, mentorship, and supervision to postgraduate researchers working on similar projects.

Prepare manuscripts describing relevant research work for submission to scientific journals.
